The Domaine de Russel is situated 7kms from Bergerac.
Protected by its 2ha park on the banks of the Dordogne, Russel is a beautiful 18th century manor house which has been tastefully restored and is both comfortable and convivial.
Its origins date back to the 16th century...
The name Russel comes from the French word 'ru', meaning a small brook, and is a reference to the 7 sources that cross the domain. In the 19th century, the property became a tobacco farm, taking advantage of the fertile banks of the Dordogne.
A beautiful drive, lined with tall cedars, marks the entrance to the domain. In the garden, the many trees offer shade for relaxing or for a country picnic. The Dordogne flows gently across the bottom of the park and in the evening you can frequently catch herons in flight.
Before our arrival at Russel, the property had seduced other lovers of the Perigord. One of these was the writer, Marcel Jullian, who lived here for several years, finding rest and inspiration in the peaceful countryside. His presence can still be felt in some of Russel's rooms as well as in the entrance library.
